Delta Air Lines has announced the reinstatement of direct, non-stop commercial air flights between New York and Tel Aviv to commence in early September. This marks an important development in the process of re-normalising direct air routes between North America and Israel after the long period of disruptions in the area.
The move is an indication that the major international airlines have regained operational confidence as a result of safety checks that caused the cancellation of several flights in the Middle East. A direct air link between the two commercial centres will address the backlog of demand for travel purposes during the busy autumn season.
According to the carrier’s updated operational schedule, daily direct services will recommence on September 6. The initial outbound segment is scheduled to depart John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, arriving at Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv the following morning. The return sector will launch on September 7, leaving Tel Aviv and arriving in New York later that same day. Delta plans to operate the long-haul route utilising its modern Airbus A330-900neo widebody fleet.
Corporate leadership stated that the decision to resume flights was finalised after conducting a comprehensive assessment of security conditions in regional airspace. Airline representatives emphasised that operational decisions remain grounded in continuous coordination with international aviation regulators, state security agencies, and ground handling authorities to ensure the safety of both passengers and crew members.
Despite the reactivation of its core New York service, Delta confirmed that other previously announced Israel expansion plans remain on hold. The airline’s planned non-stop route connecting Boston Logan International Airport to Tel Aviv remains suspended indefinitely, while additional transatlantic routes remain subject to ongoing operational evaluations.
The announcement comes as multiple global carriers gradually rebuild schedules into Tel Aviv’s primary hub. U.S. competitor United Airlines is also preparing to ramp up its presence in the market, planning to reintroduce twice-daily non-stop flights connecting its Newark Liberty hub to Ben Gurion Airport starting September 8.
The simultaneous return of major U.S. air operators underscores a broader stabilisation of commercial aviation corridors serving Israel. Industry analysts anticipate that the reintroduction of daily transatlantic capacity will lower fare volatility and provide critical infrastructure support for regional trade and diplomatic engagement. Delta indicated that it will keep flight schedules under active review as market conditions evolve.
